As a makeup artist in Vancouver the most common question I get asked, next to “what famous actors have you worked on? ” Is ” What is your favorite makeup line?” That is an impossible question to answer, because some products work fabulously on one face and horribly on another. There are so many factors that come in to play. What I have decided to do is list the top ten products I reach for most often in my makeup kit. Over the next few weeks I will list my favorite products from #10-1, 1 being my favorite of course. I will do my best to list all the pros and cons of each product. I just wanna remind everyone that not all these products will work the same for everyone. Lets start with #10
Revlon Colorstay foundation
I love this foundation, I prefer using it through the airbrush but often I apply it directly to the skin. The name says it all “Colorstay” this foundation needs little to no touch ups and provides excellent coverage that lasts hours. It has a matte finish and doesn’t require caking on powder to keep it in place. It’s seems to be semi water resistant, so I tend to use it on for a rainy day wedding or while working on a film set when I know my actress may get wet. Revlon Colorstay has a variety of colors so its perfect for women of all skin tones. My favorite part about this product is that you don’t have to break the bank to have it. One bottle goes for about $16 CAD.
As we all know all good things have bad sides, so here they are. Revlon Colorstay dries very quickly so you have to work very fast with it, once it dries it is impossible to blend. This product along with a lot of other products dries slightly darker on the skin than when it is in the bottle. This can make finding the perfect color very hard. When using this product I tend to mix two colors together to get the perfect shade for my clients. The final con the this product is, that because of its staying power, its very hard to remove at the end of the day. It takes Makeup remover wipes and strong cleansers to get it off, which can be hard on your skin and if not removed properly can cause breakouts. So this is why I don’t recommend it for everyday use, just for special occasions.
