Tobin Smith, a well known photographer in Vancouver, decided for mothers day he would get his wife Sarah, the “Yummy Mummy Makeover”.  Sarah is naturally beautiful already so it was an easy job for me, but here is what we did:  First Sarah started with a full set of eyelash extensions.  Since Sarah has a simple style, we choose a natural look for her lashes.  Check this out!

Everyone wonders how the process is actually done, so we thought we would take a few photos to show you what goes on during the eyelash extension application:

Sarah absolutely loved her new lashes!   You can see what a difference they make, but Sarah’s special day didn’t end there.  Next Sarah got to have her makeup done so her Photographer husband could capture the transformation with some photos.  Like always we thought we would show you step by step photos of her makeover.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The trick with Sarah’s makeover was to keep her looking as natural as possible.  That is done by using neutral colors, instead of bold colors.   The all-over-glow gave Sarah that clean look that tied everything together.  Lets take a look at Sarah before her “Yummy Mummy Makeover” and after.

Earlier today my husband and I were talking about the difference in my before and after photos for the eyelash extensions.  He asked me a great question.  He said, “why are eyelashes so important? Why do they make such a big difference?”  

At first I thought he was crazy for asking, what I thought was such an obvious question.  He was so surprised by the answer. Then it hit me, most people do not realize how big of difference just your eyelash and you eyebrows make to your face.  

The truth is, the your eyes are the most noticeable feature to your face.  Many times your eyes will be the first thing someone notices about you.  Your eyelashes are the frame of your eyes.  I mean you could have the most beautiful picture but without the perfect frame often the picture will go unnoticed.  That is why eyelashes make such a difference to you face.  

There are many ways to dress up your eyelashes.  Of course there is the traditional applying mascara, or wearing a bit of eyeliner, but now you can tint your lashes, curl your lashes and of course have temporary, or semi-permanent extensions.   With all these options, how do you decide which is for you?  Lets compare your options.  

If you have long brown or lighter colored lashes

If your lashes are already long enough, but you wish they were darker to help frame your eyes, you have two options. If you don’t really like wearing mascara, then perhaps you should try tinting your lashes.  Of course this should always be done by a professional!  

Your other option which is more of a daily maintenance is simply wearing mascara.  I always recommend before applying mascara you curl your lashes with a good quality eyelash curler (shuemura).  Mascara can tend to weigh down your lashes sometimes causing the eyes to look a little droopy.  Curling them before hand will open up the eyes.  I also recommend non-waterproof mascara because it doesn’t take so much tugging at you eyes and lashes to remove it.

If you have short lashes

If you feel your eyelashes are too short for you, in this case I would suggest some sort of an extension.  If daily maintenance  doesn’t bother you then after curling your lashes and applying mascara then you can add a few individual clusters to the corner of your lashes. This gives you some length without the false look you can get from strip lashes. If you feel like this is too much work for you and you wanted something that requires no makeup and much less maintenance, then I would definitely recommend to semi-permanent extensions.  You can learn a bit more about them on my eyelash extension page.

Over the past few years I have been seeing them more and more.  Eyelash extensions, what an amazing idea.  They are the new makeup trend, and are becoming the next big thing all over the world.  All the hollywood celeb’s are getting them done, they have become extremely popular in the Asia, Europe, US, and Eastern Canada.  So why has it taken so long for it to become popular in Vancouver?  Why is it that we are always the last ones to catch on?  

As soon as I heard of them, I was intrigued, so I researched them and was so impressed with what I saw.  I wanted to spread the word about this revolutionary trend.  No more running mascara through out the day?  No more wedding pictures with noticeable line from the fake strip lashes?  Woman can be free to go swimming in a pool or at the beach, without their eye makeup running down their face?  We can be free at last!  I thought I want the woman in Vancouver to be able to enjoy this too.  I want them to have the same quality as they get in Europe, I want the woman in my city to feel as beautiful as the rest of the world.  So I looked up which eyelash extensions seemed to be the best quality.  I found a company that was based out of Quebec, and they had one teacher here in Vancouver.  ”Perfect!”  I thought, and they were. 

After my first client I was really nervous to hear what she would say after she got them done.  Her first words were, “Wow I can’t even feel them!”  and then followed by ” I love them so much, thank you.”  I knew right then and there that I had made a great decision.

How long do the eyelash extensions normally last?

Depending how well you take care of them, professionally applied eyelash extensions can last up to a month or even longer .  Use of oily makeup removers shorten the life of your new lashes.  It is also not recommended to get them wet for the first 12 hours after having them applied, and it is also recommended to avoid saunas and steam rooms for 48 hours after application.

Do eyelash extensions make my own lashes fall out? 

No.   Your own eyelases naturally fall out and grow as any other hair follicle does.  As we age, the re-growth phase of the cycle lessens naturally due to several factors– stress, nutrition, and lifestyle.   It may be more noticeable when they eventually do fall out because the lashes are so much thicker and longer with the extensions.   Some people get so used to seeing themselves with their new luxurious lashes that when they do come off, you forget what a huge difference they make from the “unaccentuated” lash.

How do I remove eyelash extensions?

There is a special remover designed to take off your extensions without harming your natural lash.  Please don’t try and take them off your self.  This can be quite painful and must be done professionally.
